Carers Plus Yorkshire: Calling all Veteran Carers!

A new Carers Project has been launched by Carers Plus Yorkshire, thanks to funding secured through the Armed Forces Covenant Fund.

This two-year programme is designed to support veteran carers and those who are caring for veterans to build strength, confidence, skills and knowledge needed to 'care with confidence', to find balance in their every-day lives and live well with their caring responsibilities and commitments.

As the number one ‘go to’ carers organisation across the coast and vale, Carers Plus Yorkshire (formerly Scarborough & Ryedale Carers Resource) has been providing support to carers for over 25 years. The charity has recently expanded the team to include a new Carer Engagement Advisor exclusively for the military community. Lisa Spratling spent 9 years in the Women’s Royal Naval Service as a Navy Photographer and is very much looking forward to offering a friendly face, alongside free and confidential advice to carers of veterans or veteran carers.

Lisa added:

“As a veteran myself I feel incredibly proud to be supporting all ranks, squadrons and regiments of the military community. We all know someone who doesn’t see themselves as a carer, but who goes above and beyond in their duties whilst looking after someone else. If you know someone who has a military link and might benefit from a spot of caring support, then why not give us a call and we can have a friendly chat."

The programme will work in partnership with First Light Trust, whose staff will offer complimentary skills and experience in supporting veterans and their wider needs. As a combination, we firmly believe this is a winning team for those we intend to support.
